The year 2020 was a challenging time. The Corona virus was just surging in the United States and the medical community still had no idea how to best handle the situation. I was pregnant at the time the state wide shut down happened. By pregnant I mean I was about to pop during that time.
My husband and I were trying to be smart with our money because we were getting ready for the arrival of our second baby and my maternity leave. Knowing I would be out of work within a month or so, I began saving and paying off any debt. Something many people did not get a chance to do before the pendemic hit. Because of this we thankfully had a bit of a cushion when it all went down.
Sadly many Americans did not have any heads up to start saving by the time the pendemic hit. Many people lost their jobs and were is danger of loosing their homes and businesses. The pendemic struck down anyone who was at all financially unprepared for life's challenges. Now how often does a pendemic strike right? I mean it's only about every 100 years so why would anyone even begin preparing?
After living this situation and using up all of my savings, plus the stimulus checks to stay a float.I kept thinking...what is the rest of America doing? What are the people who were not as lucky or prepared as me doing to survive and feed their children?
This blogg post is dedicated to the people who are still struggling as we are hopefully almost of the woods. Here are some resources for Coloradans who still need help getting back up on their feet. Especially for single parent families. I admire your courage and strength during these times.
With the pasing of the American Rescue Act many States were given extra money to help provide funds to people in need. According to the New York Times, the bill gave $350 billion for state and local government, territories and tribal government. This includes assistance and funding for colleges, universities, transit agencies, housing aid, child care and food assistance. Colorado received about $5.7 billion. This money was allocated between counties and agencies within Colorado.
Most of the agencies I list have been around for some time but had limited funding. Other have been created to meet the demands of Coloradans during the Covid-19 pendemic. The links will be listed below.
If you are in need of financial assistance, housing or food stamps and live in Colorado you can visit PEAK Colorado .There you can apply for benefits and see if you qualify for anything else. The pendemic has hit some people hard and even if you were denied these benefits before you should try applying again. Every time a new Act is passed by congress, more money is awarded to the states. It is speculated that the U.S. economy will not recover for another couple of years. Therefore the government is trying to pass legislation to help the people who are still being effected by the Covid-19 pendemic.
If you need information on housing by state, visit National Low Income Housing Coalition There you will find information on rental as well as housing assistance. They also have the most up to date information on available emergency housing. It is a Federal housing resource for anyone in need.
The treasury department also has rental assistance programs listed by state. Go to home.treasury.gov and scroll down to find what is being offered in your state.
I also found a great website called needhelppayingyourbills.com. This website has all of the Colorado programs being offered currently. The website has information about loans, grants, food assistance, child care and emergency financial aid for people who qualify. The best part is that it list the phone numbers and websites for each organization. It also lists the counties in Colorado and gives you specific aid for that county.
The Colorado department of human services page has a benefits assistance section that has programs listed. There is also the Homeowners Assistance Fund. It is a Federal fund put together to avoid delinquencies in morgage payments and rental assistance.
Make sure you visit some of these websites and see if you qualify for any of these benefits. It's been a hard year and if the help is out there make sure to get it.
